Trip to Adelaide

Last weekend Kurt and I had our first trip away since moving to Roxby. We headed down to Adelaide early Saturday morning so hit the city just after midday. We stayed at the Sorrento Meridien Apartments on the Anzac Highway about a 10 minute drive from the city. It was really nice for $88 a night, a seperate bedroom, bathroom and a fully self contained kitchen.

We spent most of the weekend shopping at Marion Mall. We also went to the IKEA superstore out near the airport...WOW, that place was amazing...I have never seen anything like it!!!

Kurt had his exam Monday morning in the city so I spent a few hours doing some more shopping. By the end of the 3 days we were very glad to be heading back to Roxby, all that shopping was exhausting.

On another note, Kurt had an xray while we were in the city and went and saw the doctor during the week...everything is looking good, both bloods and xray were clear. He is due for a CT scan again next month but so far everything is going really well. We are impressed with the doctor here as he seems to have had a lot of experience with Kurt's type of cancer.

Promise to post some photos soon.

Rebecca's New Job

I started my new job on the 30th and it is certainly different to what I am used to. It is a small library that is mainly only busy with school kids. There are no fines, almost unlimited renewals and very lax rules. People don't need to have their card...which makes it interesting when asking the kids their names so I can find their records, particularly the younger ones.

The manager has only been there since the beginning of the year but from what I gather she has great plans for the library so hopefully that will make my job more interesting. There is 6 staff all together. A school librarian, 2 teacher librarians (one is part time), the library manager, another part timer and then me. We are closely involved with the school as many of their resources like digital cameras and maths kits are kept in the library and we issue them when they are needed. The building is owned by the school and the collection is half owned by the school and half owned by the community.

I am going to be in charge of the interloans but will also be doing some copy cataloguing, processing, mending, money counting, desk duties and who knows what else. I'll be working on my own every second Saturday and will need to go to Adelaide for training at some stage.

I am looking forward to whatever challenges it throws my way!!
